Plan a return around your current life rather than a past personal best.
Understand the question
A previous routine is a useful piece of history, not automatically an appropriate starting plan now. Think about what changed during the break: schedule, health, access, goals, or confidence. Tell the coach which parts of the old routine you enjoyed.
Put it in everyday context
Someone returning after a busy season may need organizational support. Someone returning after illness or surgery may need clinical guidance first. The length of the break does not explain those differences on its own.
A comparison to avoid
Using an old personal record as the immediate target can crowd out the more useful question of what is appropriate today.
Your practical checklist
- Describe the reason for the break
- Review current restrictions
- Select a manageable first session
- Agree on how to assess the return
Bring a focused question
What should determine the starting point for me now?
Save this question with your notes so the next conversation starts with the issue you want to understand.
