Make upper-back mobility questions specific to turning, reaching, desk work, and sport.
Understand the question
The term thoracic refers to the upper and middle portion of the spine. A coach may discuss it during rotation or reaching, but a visible movement pattern does not by itself reveal the cause of discomfort. Ask how the observation changes the plan.
Put it in everyday context
For golf, explain whether you want to turn more comfortably or manage a painful action. For work, describe when the restriction appears. Those are different conversations, even when both are described as upper-back stiffness.
A comparison to avoid
Assuming a posture photograph identifies the cause of pain gives a single image more meaning than it can support.
Your practical checklist
- Name the activity
- Describe direction and timing
- Ask what the movement screen can show
- Separate a training goal from a pain evaluation
Bring a focused question
How does the proposed drill relate to the movement I am trying to improve?
Save this question with your notes so the next conversation starts with the issue you want to understand.
